April 2015 Games of the Week

By Margaret Duncan, Ed.D.

The Histocrats support the idea of incorporating board-games into your personal life as well as in the classroom.  As such, we support and participate in a local board-gaming group.  Any and all board-game enthusiasts are welcome to join the Game Nights that are held every first and third Friday night of the month.  As part of our gaming group initiative, we also recommend history centric games that are fun to play each week to all of our followers.  The selected games receive our “Game of the Week” distinction.  Recommended games are a mix of cooperative, card games, as well Euro style games.

7 Wonders, Asmodee
In 7 Wonders, you lead an ancient civilization as it rises from its barbaric roots to become a world power. Lead your troops to a military victory or create a nation of artisans and philosophers. Establish a powerful merchant state or master the mysteries of science and technology. Build an architectural wonder that will fascinate for eons to come, and rule the most powerful civilization on Earth!

Timeline–Americana, Asmodee
From the first Stetson hat to the unveiling of the first iPad, America's history and its popular culture have gone hand in hand. See if you can remember when the Red Sox traded Babe Ruth, or when Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic. Players take a historical tour of the popular history of America. Each player has a hand of cards and they take turns placing those cards correctly into the growing timeline. Guess correctly to get rid of all your cards and win the game!

Las Vegas, Ravensburger
Try your luck in the glitzy world of gambling in Las Vegas. With different amounts to be won in each of six great casinos, decide where to place your dice in every round and outwit your competitors by maximizing your gains. But be sure to keep your wits about you in the battle over the big bucks.

Island Siege, Advanced Primate Entertainment
Island Siege is a card game of colonization in the West Indies. Players build forts using building stones from their supply, then move colonists in each turn to populate it. Colonists in turn build buildings and ships, which then house the colonists. Buildings provide players with special abilities, while ships are sent to lay siege to the opponent's forts. The goal is for players to get all of their colonists into play on their forts, buildings and ships. Be careful, though, whenever a fort is destroyed by an opponent's fleet all of its colonists, and the colonists of buildings behind the fort are removed from play!
